October 2022

We had a good season fishing locally with more rainbows, steelhead parr and smolts to hand. Fewer nice sized browns this season but good action! A special thank you to all who booked this year with Woodland Rivers! The local creek was mostly clear and low this season but with stealth tactics and light line we were able to produce some good fish. The summer water temps were higher than usual and we rested the creek mostly for July and August. The up North bite was good for the several Trout Trips that went out. As I write this report we are at about the peak run for the annual king salmon run and the fish are very healthily sized this year with many fish 30 pounds or better. This was a very busy season for us locally and the flies of choice were scuds, sow bugs, midges, baetis, P.T.’s and hares ears to name a few which brought many good fish to hand. The local creek closes here soon but opportunities exist throughout the Clinton River system. The mainstream of the Clinton has been very low with spotty rain and for the fall steelhead migratory run we most definitely need some November rains to push the fish up. For the steelhead angler pursuing the local waters, remember to go light if nymphing or fishing egg flies and move around a bit to cover productive water. For those swing anglers the fall bite can be strong with aggressive fall takes and various spey flies work throughout the late fall season. We are currently booking for fall steelhead for Michigan Destination Float Trips as well as spring steelhead. We are booking fast for spring and early summer trout opportunities as well for 2023. We also continue to offer Gift Certificates which make a special Gift for those discriminating Anglers as well as the novice. Gift Certificates are good for one whole year upon issuing date and are good for local and destination Guided Fly-Fishing Trips.

Have a wonderful fall season and take good caution out there as you venture out to your favorite fishing holes. All the best and tight Lines!
